Southwell Minster sits perfectly alongside the ruins of the Archbishop’s Palace and its beautiful gardens.

For over 900 years, it has welcomed visitors, pilgrims and worshippers and today is home to a busy and active congregation, serving a lively and growing diocese.

Southwell Minster is of rich historical and architectural interest, with its late 13^th Century Chapter House considered the crowning glory of the building. Decorated with rich naturalistic stone carvings, the Leaves of Southwell are of exceptional quality and regarded as the finest example of naturalistic carving in the United Kingdom. Based on close study of local hedgerows, they depict, with great accuracy, many varieties of foliage and contain green men and creatures both real and fanciful.

Visitors can explore the Minster at leisure, take advantage of the digitally recorded audio guide or book an engaging guided tour.

There’s always a lot going on at Southwell Minster making it easy to see why it is a popular choice for tourists. Whether it be its strong musical heritage, with Evensong sung by the Cathedral Choir, and orchestral concerts throughout the year, or the whole host of other events on offer, such as food and drink and craft fairs, theatrical productions and art exhibitions.

The Refectory occupies a fantastic location inside the Minster grounds and is the perfect spot to enjoy a cake and pot of tea, with magnificent views that can be enjoyed on the patio. The shop is worth a visit too – focusing on selling locally produced items, gifts and cards from the UK and ethically sourced products.
